Ethical Statement

As a small family business that’s grown and moved on by a generation (although founder Clinton is still actively involved), we’re thoroughly committed to our company, team and industry. We appreciate many of our customers may be looking for this information to assure they are making the correct buying decisions and we strive to answer any questions you may have regarding this.
As a company, we employ a team of approximately 12 – the majority of which are long-standing members in full and part-time positions. We also employ students from A level age through university. We pay living wage and above and enjoy very low staff turnover. We have a vested interest in our team, which has become part of the Burhouse Limited family over the years.

With regards to our products, we source internationally and direct from manufacturers, with whom we have developed close working relationships over many years of business. Our suppliers conform to the requirements and laws of their own governments. We have visited many of our suppliers at their factories, have long-held relationships and friendships with many of them and can vouch for the above, from our own enquiries.
All our metal findings production is compliant with EU REACH regulations where required and certified by a program of scheduled batch testing products with the assay office. This ensures compliance with the following:

- EU Regulation No 1907/2006 concerning Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulates the use of nickel, lead and cadmium in jewellery products.

- Entry 27 of Annex XVII of REACH concerns the EU Nickel Directive and requires compliance with British Standard BS EN 1811:2011+A1:2015.

Many of our larger manufacturers have recently attained RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council) certification as well as holding many other industry known certifications such as SEDEX. We can provide further details for specific items if required.
We also support a number of smaller companies for whom certification is unattainable due to the costs, these businesses strive to support their local communities and create skilled teams who may not otherwise have the opportunity, one example is a small silversmith business in Jaipur who manufacture in line with fair trade principles and provide employment for local people.

We Are Now Able to Offer a Wider Range of Eco Silver Lines

These are produced using a sustainable and ecological bullion source. The silver is a mix of 95% recycled silver and 5% ethically sourced silver. We market this as ‘Eco’ Silver and it is great for those who are conscious of the processes involved in this industry. Using recycled silver is a good way of reducing the impact of mining for such precious metals. There is currently no external certification available in the country of origin regarding the composition of the material. The bullion manufacturer is a certified member of the ‘Responsible Jewellery Council’ member number: 0000 3591 and is audited as such. They also are certified by LBMA under The London Good Delivery List of Acceptable Refiners as a responsible source. For further details please see
